Final year student killer: Free other suspects, I killed her alone after we made love

Abdulrahman Bello, the prime suspect in the murder of Yetunde Lawal, a final-year student at the Kwara State College of Education, claimed full responsibility for the crime.

He told Chief Magistrate S.B. Mohammed in Ilorin, on Thursday, to free others standing trial with him, alleging they are innocent of the crime.

During the hearing, Abdulrahman raised his hand to make a request, which the Magistrate granted. He then stated that the other suspects were not involved in the crime and pleaded with the court to release them.

When the Magistrate asked him to explain what happened on the day of the incident, Abdulrahman admitted that when Yetunde arrived at his house, she mentioned she was hungry because she had not eaten before coming.

He said he suggested that she cook, but since she was too hungry to wait, he decided to get food for both of them.

He further recounted that after eating together, they became intimate and later had sex.

When he was asked if he had done such a thing before, Abdulrahman said, “This is the first time. I have never done such a thing before. It was a spirit that entered me, and immediately after killing her departed my body, I realised that what I did was bad. Please allow the remaining suspects to go back home freely.”

Counsel did not represent Abdulrahman, while the four other suspects in the case had legal representation before Magistrate Mohammed.

The Chief State Counsel, Issa Zakari, who represented the state government, informed the court that the state Attorney General had issued legal advice.

He stated that, based on the advice, all the suspects had a case to answer.
