Why we denied Fubara entry into Rivers Assembly quarters – Lawmakers
The 27 pro-Nyesom Wike lawmakers of the Rivers State House of Assembly, said Wednesday they locked the state governor, Simibiaye Fubara, out from entry the assembly complex because there was no official communication between the governor and the Assembly that he was coming.
The Speaker, Martins Amaewhule, claimed there was no official communication to the coming of the Governor to present the 2025 budget to the House.
Recall, Fubara was denied access to the official quarters of the state House of Assembly along Aba Road, Port Harcourt, where lawmakers loyal to his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, have been holding their sittings.
Fubara, who arrived at the complex in the company of top government officials, including the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Tammy Danagogo, and his Chief of Staff, Edison Ehie, met a locked gate, effectively preventing his entry.
Speaking to journalists at the scene, the governor denied that there was no communication between him and the House.
He said he sent an executive communication to Speaker Martins Amaewhule, claiming that he had been trying to call him on the phone since Tuesday.
He accused Speaker Martin Amaewhule of deliberately avoiding him, stating that several calls placed to the lawmaker went unanswered.
He stated, “Before my arrival here, I made several attempts to speak to the Speaker. I also sent a letter which was transmitted for this particular invitation.
“Unfortunately, at the gate, you can see that the place is completely sealed, and there is no sign that anything is going to happen today.”
The governor insisted that his actions were in the interest of the people, stressing that he remained committed to fulfilling his constitutional duties.
“The reason why we are doing this, I have always said, is in the interest of our people, which is the most important thing. I don’t think there is anything to worry about. I expect to hear from them after today,” he added.
After addressing the press, the governor and his entourage left the premises.
With this development Fubara’s representation of the 2025 Nigeria 1.1 trillion budget, in accordance with Supreme Court judgement, has suffered a significant setback.
It is unfortunate that this lawmakers with unpatriotic questionable character are taking Gov. Sim for granted because he is accommodating too much excesses from them.
If I am the governor, I will chase them out of the state regardless of what bias judgment that mean no well for the State.
If I should ask one question, it is this: Was there any way Gov. Sim deter them of their legislative seats before they decided to decamp simply because the governor is not willing to share state money to their pay master? So on what ground did they suddenly became enemy with the governor who requested to work with his people and stop being a figure head governor?
It is unfortunate that our politician have degree certificates but still act as unpatriotic illiterates
