Senator Imasuen to Natasha: You’re down looking for whom to drag along

The Senator representing Edo South, Neda Imasuen, has described Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, as a drowning person looking for whom to drag along.

The Senator was reacting to Apoti-Uduaghan’s petition which she lodged before Legal Practitioners Committee seeking for the disbarment of Senator Imasuen.

Apoti-Uduaghan has argued that Senator Imasuen’s defiance – as chairman of Senate on Ethics and Disciplinsry Committee that recommended her six months suspension – of a subsisting court order and his unethical conduct violate Rule 1 of the Rules of Professional Conduct (2023), which mandates lawyers to uphold the rule of law and maintain high professional standards.

But in a reply to Apoti-Uduaghan’s petition in statement on Tuesday, titled: “Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan and her incursion into legal battles, A call for caution,” Imasuen said she was already down and looking for whom to smear.

Imasuen noted that it was regrettable that the Kogi Central Senator, has left the substance while chasing shadows.

According to the Edo South Senator, “It is regrettable and unfortunate that Sen Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan have left the crux of her purported case against the Senate president and is now chasing shadows.”

He advised Apoti-Uduaghan to undergo self re-evaluation and re-examination towards attaining self dignity and respect.

The statement said: “The Sen Neda Imasuen media have read with disdain the petition of disbarment filed by the embattled Sen Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan to the Legal Practitioners Committee against Sen Neda Imasuen.

“It is regrettable and unfortunate that Sen Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan have left the crux of her purported case against the Senate president and is now chasing shadows.

“It is expected that Sen Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan who is facing recall by her constituents and riddled with recurring controversies, would have seen the handwriting that she is alone on this voyage having failed to substantiate her case, mixed with concorted stories, lies and blackmail.

“Ordinary, we would have neglected the content of the petition for lack of merit but the story must be put straight for the sake of posterity. The Legal Practitioners Committee in its wisdom knows that the embattled Senator is looking for people to drown with her after her unruly behaviour in the Senate and her constant frustrations that has brought the Senate, constituents and the nation to disrepute.

“The issues raised by Sen Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan in the petition are laughable and incongruent but it is left for the highly respected legal committee to decide.

“In the meantime, we want to advice Sen Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan to refrain from her continuing tussles and legal dispute of the unsubstantiated sexual harassment case which has further smeared her reputation and put her to ridicule among Nigerians. This is the time for her to undergo self re-evaluation and re-examination towards attaining self dignity and respect.”
