Alleged corruption: ICPC storms Lagos Council secretariat to arrest chairman in his office

A mild drama played out at the office of the Lagos Island East Local Council Development Area, LCDA, recently, when a team of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, stormed the council premises to arrest the chairman of council, Muibi Folawiyo, over allegations of gross corruption.

Sources disclosed that the anti-graft body had invited the council boss to appear before it to answer petitions against him but refused to respond to the invitation, hence storming the council for the arrest.

Spokesperson for the ICPC, Demola Bakare, who confirmed to newsmen the arrest, said that Folawiyo is being investigated for alleged massive theft, diversion of public funds for personal use, and failure to follow due process.

“He was arrested at the council secretariat on 42 Broad Street, Lagos, after repeatedly ignoring invitations which he acknowledged.

“He is currently in our custody. He was arrested by a team from the ICPC Headquarters for the aforementioned reasons but has since been granted administrative bail. He is expected to report back today as the investigation continues,” Bakare said.
