Security men were by roadside while Fulani militia were killing our people — Plateau youths alleges

The Berom Youth Moulders-Association (BYM) has condemned what it calls the deliberate failure of security forces during a brutal attack on Bindi (Jebu) village, Tahoss community, on Tuesday in Riyom Local Government Area, Plateau State.

The assault, which occurred between 4:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, claimed the lives of 27 residents, mostly women and children.

In a statement signed by BYM President Solomon Mwantiri and Secretary General Bature Adazaram, the group accused suspected armed Fulani militia of orchestrating the massacre. They alleged the attackers came from nearby settlements and struck while villagers were asleep.

Despite earlier warnings and sightings of armed men grazing cattle around the area, BYM said security agencies failed to act.

The group specifically blamed the reinforcement team of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), accusing them of arriving during the attack but not intervening.

“They positioned themselves by the roadside, less than a kilometre from the village, while the massacre was ongoing,” the statement read.

BYM demanded justice, compensation, and an overhaul of security response systems.
