Senator Apoti-Uduaghan’s suspension, unjust, undermines democratic principles – PDP north central demands reinstatement

The North Central chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has demanded the immediate reinstatement of suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

Senator Apoti-Uduaghan was recently suspended from the National Assembly for indiscipline.

The demand was contained in a communiqué released after the party’s inaugural zonal meeting held on Monday, July 28, 2025, in Lafia, Nasarawa State.

According to the statement signed by Zonal Secretary, Hon. Francis Orogu, the suspension of Senator Natasha was unjust and undermines democratic representation, particularly of the Kogi Central Senatorial District and Nigerian women.

“We commend our distinguished Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan for her courage and service. She is not alone. We call on the leadership of the National Assembly under Senate President Godswill Akpabio to lift her suspension without further delay,” he said.

The PDP warned that her continued absence is a disservice to her constituents and contributes to the growing underrepresentation of women in politics.

In the same meeting, the party passed a vote of confidence on its North Central leadership under Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang. It commended his role in steering the successful zonal congress and his efforts to unify the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The PDP also condemned rising insecurity in the zone and urged religious leaders to focus on moral values rather than partisan politics. It called on the Federal Government to prioritise the safety of Nigerians instead of early campaign strategies for 2027.
