Man stabbed to death in dispute over girlfriend

A dispute over a girlfriend has resulted in tragedy when a 25-year-old man was stabbed to death in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.

The deceased, identified as Hammed Usman Tunde, was allegedly stabbed to death by his friend, one Gafar, during an argument reportedly over a girlfriend.

The tragic incident reportedly occurred on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at Oja Gboro Quarters, Ilorin, when the two friends, said to be close companions, got into an argument over who was dating the girl while patronising a Hausa sugarcane vendor.

Eyewitness accounts revealed that the heated exchange quickly turned violent, during which the 21-year-old suspect, Gafar, allegedly stabbed Tunde in the chest with a knife.

The victim, a resident of Ile-Soro 2 in Oja Gboro, Isale Koko area of Ilorin, was rushed to a nearby private hospital but was later referred to the General Hospital, Ilorin, where he was confirmed dead on arrival.

The suspect, identified as a native of Ile Olowo in the same area, fled the scene immediately after the attack. His whereabouts, alongside those of his family members, remain unknown as at press time.

A female relative of the deceased described the incident as heart-breaking, calling on the State government and security agencies to ensure justice was served.

She described her brother as a peaceful person who did not deserve to die in such a cruel manner.

The deceased was buried on Wednesday according to Islamic rites at his family house, Ile-Soro 2, in Oja Gboro, Isale Koko, Ilorin.
