Former Anambra State governor, Chris Ngige, has been charged over infractions committed during his time Labour and Productivity Minister under the administration of late Muhammad Buhari.
The charges were filed at the FCT High Court, Abuja, Thursday.
He was arrested in Abuja late Wednesday raising concerns that he may have been kidnapped.
Ngige was said to have taken undue advantage as a Minister to award contracts running into billions of naira to his cronies.
One of the charges said he awarded seven different contracts under the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) to Cezimo Nigeria Limited whose director, Ezebinwa Amarachukwu Charles, is “his alter ago”
Ngige is currently in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
This was confirmed in a statement on Wednesday night and signed by his former media aide, Fred Chukwulobe.
Chukwulobe dismissed rumours that the former Minister, who served in the Muhammadu Buhari administration, was kidnapped by unknown gunmen.
He said, “Former Governor of Anambra State and immediate past minister of labour and employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, is with the EFCC. More details later.”
