Senator Imasuen refutes claims of stepping down for second term, says Edo South deserves continuity

The senator representing Edo South in the National Assembly, Neda Imasuen, has refuted claims making the rounds in the social media space that he is stepping down from running for a second term in office.

Senator Imasuen, who made this known through a statement he personally signed on Monday, said he has not told anyone that he was stepping down for another candidate.

According to the senator such claim is false, baseless and misleading.

He posited that the rumour is a deliberate attempt to misinform the public and distract from the remarkable work already being done.

The statement read in part: “The attention of the Office of Senator Neda Imasuen has been drawn to a baseless and misleading rumour being peddled by mischief makers and paid agents claiming that the Senator has no intention of returning to the Senate for a second term.

“This claim is not only false, it is a deliberate attempt to misinform the public and distract from the remarkable work already being done.

“Let it be stated clearly and unequivocally: Senator Neda Imasuen is fully committed to returning to the Senate.

“This decision is not about personal ambition. It is about continuity, effectiveness, and delivering greater democratic gains to the good people of Edo South Senatorial District.”

Senator Imasuen noted in his term in office, he has demonstrated capacity, courage, and commitment, adding he has sponsored and supported key legislations, contributed meaningfully to national discourse, and provided effective representation for his constituents. His performance has not gone unnoticed.

“But governance, especially at the legislative level, is not a one-term learning curve,” he said.

He stated that he has now learned the ropes. “He understands the intricacies of legislative business. He has built strategic relationships. He has gained the experience required to navigate the system effectively.

“Returning him to the Senate is not just a political decision, it is a strategic move.

“A ranking Senator holds greater influence. A ranking Senator commands more respect. A ranking Senator has a stronger voice in attracting federal projects, influencing policies, and defending the interests of his people.

“With a second term, Senator Imasuen will be better positioned to: Attract more developmental projects to Edo South, push for people-oriented legislation, and secure greater federal presence in the district.

“The work has started. The foundation has been laid. Now is the time to consolidate and expand, not retreat.

“We urge the good people of Edo South to disregard these unfounded rumours. They are the handiwork of those who fear progress and seek to derail a focused and performing representative.
