Tragic end of corps member: Fear accident most died by road accident after flight from Lagos to Enugu

Haunted by fears of road accidents and kidnapping, Grace Afangideh decided that air travel was the safest option for her journey.

The young lady took a flight from Lagos to Enugu, planning to continue the rest of her trip to the National Youth Service Corps orientation camp in Ebonyi State by road. However, fate had other plans. She died by road accident from Enugu to Abakaliki.

“She could have travelled by road, but due to fear of accidents and insecurity in the Southeast, she opted for air travel via Lagos to Abakaliki,” her father, Mr Camillus Afangideh, explained.

But destiny had already taken a cruel turn, as death waited, lurking in the shadows. She could not get a direct flight to Abakaliki and her only option was to land at Enugu State airport, and continue her journey to NYSC camp by road to Ebonyi State.

So, Grace boarded a flight from Lagos to Enugu on the morning of January 22.

The flight went smoothly, and she arrived safely. However, the journey was not yet complete, as she still had to travel to Ebonyi to begin her NYSC orientation camp.

Unknown to Grace, who later boarded an Enugu North Mass Transit bus with other corps members, the very danger she had feared most was waiting for her.

The father explained further that 30 minutes into the journey, the vehicle Grace was travelling in collided with another vehicle, and she died immediately.

“Grace always had a deep fear of road accidents and kidnapping. She often expressed her concerns, never imagining that her worst fear would end up taking her life,” her father added, as he struggled to hold back his tears.

Even after her death, her father revealed, her siblings had dreams of her, insisting that she was still alive.
