2027: Atiku blows hot, vows to punish looters if elected

A video of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is currently trending. In the video he hinted at running for president again in 2027, promising to take a hard stance on corruption if elected.

While a formal campaign announcement is still pending, Atiku’s latest statement leaves little doubt that he intends to be a major contender once again in 2027.

In a video shared on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Atiku, speaking in Hausa, declared that his government would not tolerate looting or abuse of public office.

“I swear to God, if elected, whoever steals or engages in any corruption-related activities, we will declare war against them and they must be punished,” he said.

Atiku, who ran for president in 2023 under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), appears to be aligning himself more closely with the rising African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition, which has gained momentum in recent weeks. Though he has yet to formally announce his defection from the PDP, his active involvement with the opposition bloc points to a major political shift ahead of 2027.

The ADC-led coalition recently unveiled former Senate President David Mark as its Interim National Chairman and ex-Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola as its Interim National Secretary, signalling a serious push to challenge the ruling party in the next election.

Atiku’s declaration comes as the coalition continues to attract major political heavyweights, including Peter Obi and former APC chairman John Odigie-Oyegun, who are now united in their mission to unseat President Bola Tinubu.
