Akwa Ibom socio-cultural group demands justice for 13-year-old boy killed by soldier
A socio-cultural organisation in Ikot Abasi LGA of Akwa Ibom State, Mboho Ukpum Ete, has demanded justice for a 13-year-old boy, Timothy Daniel, allegedly shot by a soldier.
In a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Engr Patrick Udoma, the group described the incident as “unacceptable” and demands immediate justice.
“The President General of Mboho Ukpum Ete expresses sadness over the unprofessional conduct of army personnel attached to Sterling Petrochemical,” the statement said.
“This act has thrown the entire clan into mourning, and we insist that the perpetrators be identified and punished in accordance with the law.”
A soldier reportedly shot the 13-year-old boy in the head for standing up for his 15-year-old sister, Miracle Daniel, who was been sexually harassed.
The incident was said to have happened when the kids were returning home from Church on cross over night, January 1, 2026, at about 12.05am. A suspected soldier attached to the Sterling Petrochemical and Fertiliser Limited in Ikot Abasi confronted them was said to have carried out the act..
He allegedly grabbed Miracle Daniel by her bottom and made sexual advances, which she rejected. According to an eyewitness, Anthony Akpan, the soldier continued to pester the kids and touching Miracle inappropriately.
“Miracle Daniel (15) and Timothy Daniel (13) were returning from church with others. As Miracle crossed the road to urinate, the soldier, who was near the residence of the former clan head, late HRH Barr. Clement Idemudo, where Chinese expatriates live, followed her and made advances. The church shares the same fence with the residence.
“She snubbed him, and he became angry and touched her buttocks. Provoked by the harassment, Miracle cursed the soldier, and he threatened her. The brother, waiting on the other side, joined her and cursed the soldier for sexually abusing his sister.
“The soldier then threatened them further, and as they continued confronting him, he corked his rifle and aimed directly at the boy’s head.”
Mboho Ukpum Ete described the killing of the teenager and sexual harassment of his sister an act of terrorism.
“This act is perceived as terrorism and unacceptable by the people of Ukpum Ete clan,” said Patrick Udoma, publicity secretary of Mboho Ukpum Ete.
“The unprofessional manner in which the army personnel unleashed mayhem on the citizens of Ukpum Ete in the murder of our citizen in the early hours of January 1, 2026, throwing the family and the clan into mourning is unacceptable.”
The Army Public Relations Officer of 2 Brigade, Mbiokporo, Captain Lawal Bala Mohamed, confirmed the incident, saying the Military Police has taken over the matter, adding that it is under investigation.
He assured the public that the Nigerian Army does not condone misconduct by its personnel and that justice would be served.
