Amid global outrage over kidnap of 25 pupils, President Tinubu jets out for summits in S’Africa, Angola

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will on Wednesday depart Abuja for Johannesburg, South Africa, and later Luanda, Angola, for two major international engagements — the G20 Leaders’ Summit and the AU-EU Summit.

According to a statement by Presidential Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu will first attend the 20th G20 Leaders’ Summit taking place from November 22 to 23 at the Johannesburg Expo Centre.

He said the President was invited by South African leader and current G20 President, Cyril Ramaphosa, adding that Brazil’s President, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, had also invited Tinubu during his own presidency of the group in 2024.

Onanuga said the summit, themed “Solidarity, Equality, Sustainability,” will feature plenary sessions on inclusive economic growth, financing for development, disaster risk reduction, climate change, energy transition, food systems, critical minerals, decent work and artificial intelligence.

He noted that Tinubu will also hold bilateral meetings aimed at advancing the Renewed Hope Agenda and strengthening regional and global cooperation on peace, security and development.

After the G20 meeting, Tinubu will proceed to Luanda for the 7th AU-EU Summit scheduled for November 24–25, where leaders, youth representatives, innovators and civil society groups will discuss shared priorities such as climate action, infrastructure, the digital economy, the creative sector, manufacturing and agribusiness.

The President will travel with senior government officials including Foreign Affairs Minister, Yusuf Tuggar; Finance Minister, Wale Edun; Solid Minerals Minister, Dele Alake; Trade and Investment Minister, Jumoke Oduwole; and the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed.

He is expected back in the country at the end of the engagements.

The trip came after a 10-day annual vacation in Europe, during which he met with French President Emmanuel Macron.

Tinubu’s travels spanned high-level summits, bilateral meetings, presidential inauguration, and a few personal breaks.
