Anambra CP blames operatives for escape of lawmaker murder suspects

Anambra Police boss, Ikioye Orutugu, has said his command will take full responsibility for the escape of two suspects involved in the murder of one of the state’s lawmaker, Hon Justice Azuka.

CP Orutugu, who blamed operational lapses, made the declaration in a statement issued by the command and made available to newsmen on Thursday by command spokesperson, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu.

According to the Commissioner the “Command has taken full responsibility for the operational lapses of our operatives regarding the escape of the two suspects involved in the gruesome murder of Hon Justice Azuka Honourable Member representing Onitsha North 1 Constituency.”

He, however, assured that measures are already in place not only to improve public safety across the state but also rearrest the escaped suspects.

“The Command hereby reiterates that among other necessary security measures ongoing by the to improve safety in the State, it shall not rest until the fleeing suspects are re-arrested and all those involved brought to book. Given the above, in the spirit of transparency,” the statement added.

While also assuring that the right of individuals or groups to freedom of speech remains sacrosanct, he however urged the people to exercise restraint on comments and or reactions to trending issues in order to avoid escalating tension and inciting one another.
