Atiku gifts Nafisa, other girls scholarships after global competition win
Atiku Abubakar, former Vice President, has awarded scholarships to Nafisa Abdullahi, Rukaiya Fema, and Khadija Kashim Kalli, following their outstanding victory at a global competition.
This gesture is aimed at celebrating academic excellence and encouraging girl-child education.
The girls, who brought international recognition to Nigeria with their innovation and brilliance, were praised by Atiku for their determination and talent.
The dreams of three young Nigerian girls took flight recently, through their academic brilliance. Nafisa, Rukaiya, and Khadija, all global winners at the recent TeenEagle Global finals, were awarded a life-changing, fully-funded scholarship by the Atiku Abubakar Foundation (AAF).
According to a letter from AAF to the girls, the scholarship will fund the remainder of their secondary education and their entire university journey at any institution of their choice.
Many believe that the Nigerian girls’ remarkable achievement at the TeenEagle competition was a testament to their hard work, while the scholarship from the AAF is a powerful affirmation of their potential.
It is also a beacon of hope, showing that with dedication and support, dreams can become a reality regardless of a child’s background or social class.
The AAF, the philanthropic arm of Atiku Abubakar, has long been a champion of education in Nigeria.
This gesture aligns with the foundation’s commitment to supporting quality education, especially for girls and other vulnerable groups, recognising that empowering young women is a powerful investment in the future of the nation.
“When you invest in the education of a girl child, you are invariably investing in the education of a prospective family and community,” Atiku is quoted to have said in response to his commitment to the girl child education.
Nafisat and her teammates outshone students from 69 countries to emerge as the world’s best in English Language skills at the 2025 TeenEagle Global Finals held in London, United Kingdom.
TeenEagle the organisers of the competition is an international organisation supported by universities located in the UK.
TeenEagle is an English language skills competition, with the goal of giving every student globally the chance to stand out and test their skills, the organisers of the event said on their website.
The global final of the competition tested various aspects of students’ English language proficiency and communication in four events — Knowledge Quiz, Persuasive Speaking, Writing Challenge, and the Spelling Bee. This makes Nafisah’s victory a testament to not just her brilliance but also the quality of education she received in Nigeria.
