Bandits kill police ASP, abduct Inspector, others in deadly Zamfara attack

A Nigerian police officer has been killed while another was abducted alongside several villagers following a bandit attack on Farin Ruwa village in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

According to sources who spoke to a security analyst, Zagagola Makama, the attack happened on January 4, when armed bandits stormed the community and overpowered the security personnel, making away with serviceable firearms.

The sources revealed that the corpse of Samaila Sule, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, was recovered at the scene after the attack.

The bodies of five villagers were also found following the incident, the sources disclosed.

During the assault, the attackers reportedly seized Sule’s AK-47 rifle along with 30 rounds of live ammunition.

Another officer, Aliyu Ibrahim, was abducted during the attack. His AK-47 rifle, also loaded with 30 rounds of ammunition, was taken by the bandits.

In addition, no fewer than 10 villagers were kidnapped during the raid and remain in captivity as of the time of filing this report.

Security sources said efforts were ongoing to trace the abducted police officer and civilians, as well as to recover the stolen firearms.
