DSS seals IBB Golf Club Abuja amid leadership crisis

The Department of State Services (DSS) has sealed the prestigious IBB International Golf and Country Club, Abuja, following internal disputes among its members.

The sudden closure, which took place on Saturday, has been linked to a leadership struggle within the club, allegedly instigated by powerful figures seeking to disrupt a scheduled Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) at 3:00 p.m.

Sources indicate that the EGM was meant to address the process of filling vacancies on the club’s Board of Trustees (BOT).

However, tensions among members appear to have escalated, leading to security forces stepping in.

It remains unclear who specifically requested DSS intervention, as no official statement has been released from the agency as of the time of this report.

In response to the development, the club’s Captain, Ibrahim Alhassan Babayo, issued a statement expressing concern over what he described as an “unfortunate and unexpected incident.”

He accused a minority group with vested interests of attempting to derail due process, while assuring members that necessary legal steps would be taken to restore normalcy.

“We remain committed to following due process and ensuring that fairness, transparency, and governance are upheld. Despite attempts to derail this process, we remain steadfast in maintaining the integrity of our club,” Babayo said.

The closure of the IBB Golf Club, a well-known hub for top government officials, diplomats, and business executives, has raised eyebrows, with many questioning the role of security agencies in internal disputes of private organizations.

Some observers argue that the intervention of the DSS in what appears to be a club management issue suggests undue influence from certain individuals.

As uncertainty lingers, stakeholders within the club are awaiting further clarifications while legal consultations are reportedly underway.

The incident has sparked wider discussions about security agencies’ involvement in civil matters, with many keenly watching how the club’s leadership will navigate the crisis.
