Ex-AGF Malami shares details of meeting with El-rufai as rumours of defection thickens
Former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, on Monday, paid a courtesy visit to former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, in what he described as a discussion focused on the unity, peace, and progress of Nigeria.
Malami shared details of the visit via social media, calling El-Rufai “a patriotic mind committed to national development.”
“It was a distinct honor to visit my brother and friend, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai. Our conversation focused on the unity, peace, and progress of our dear country. It is always a delight engaging with someone so committed to national development,” Malami wrote.
The visit comes amid growing speculation that Malami may be considering a defection from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
Sources within political circles say Malami recently led a group of disgruntled politicians—primarily from the defunct Congress for Progressives Change (CPC) bloc within the APC—in voicing concerns over the leadership style of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.Politics-themed apparel
While no official statement has been made regarding a possible defection, Malami’s recent political moves have fueled discussions about realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
