Former Pension Reform Task Team boss, Maina in critical condition after fall

Former Pension Reform Task Team Chairman, Dr. Abdulrasheed Maina, is reportedly hospitalised after slumping while accessing his office in Abuja.

He was rushed to a private hospital where he is presently recuperating. He is said to be in critical condition.

Dr. Maina was in the news recently when he received an award from Garki, Abuja branch, of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) which many Nigerians condemned especially after just been released from prison after serving jail term for corruption.

According to Emmanuel Umahi Ekwe, Esq., Media Assistant to Dr. Maina, the former chairman of Pension Reform, slumped on the evening of Tuesday, 3 February 2026, while attempting to access his office premises.

“The incident occurred following complications arising from an untreated knee injury, which caused him to lose balance and fall, resulting in his head hitting the staircase.

“Medical personnel present promptly administered first aid, after which he was rushed to a private hospital in Abuja for urgent medical attention.

“Dr. Maina is currently receiving close medical care and remains under observation. Following preliminary medical assessment, one of the attending doctors advised that arrangements be considered for an air ambulance medical evacuation should his condition not stabilise within a short period,” he said.

His family and medical team are closely monitoring his progress.

The family appeals to the public for prayers, understanding, and respect for privacy at this critical time.
