Gunmen kill soldier, abduct four Chinese expatriates in Kogi
Gunmen on Thursday, September 19, killed a soldier and abducted four Chinese expatriates in Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State.
The attack, which occurred at Saminaka in the Ejiba axis, targeted a convoy belonging to Vau & Co. Mining Company, which was conveying Chinese engineers to a mining site.
According to security sources, the assailants laid an ambush, killing a soldier identified as a Private from the Nigerian Army’s 12 Brigade, Lokoja. A police officer, Inspector Jubril Mohammed of 45 Police Mobile Force, Force Headquarters, Abuja, sustained a gunshot wound to his left arm during the attack.
The abducted expatriates were identified as Mr. Zhou Dansu, Mr. Zhou Hai, Mr. Zhou Jiajun, and Mr. Fan Xiuguo.
The injured inspector is said to be receiving treatment at ECWA Hospital, Egbe, and his service rifle was secured.
Security operatives, including personnel of the Nigerian Army, the Police, as well as local vigilantes and hunters, have since launched a joint operation to rescue the victims and track down the perpetrators.
