Honesty pays as police officer rewarded with house, car for rejecting bribe from ritualist

A police officer, Superintendent Sentome Obi, is receiving widespread praise and recognition for his exceptional integrity after reportedly rejecting a $17,000 bribe from a suspected ritualist in Bayelsa State.

In an era where many have lost faith in law enforcement, SP Obi’s refusal to compromise his values has not only earned him commendations from the public but also a personal reward from the Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri.

According to reports, Obi was offered the staggering sum of $17,000 to release a murder suspect believed to be involved in ritual killings. But instead of turning a blind eye, the officer arrested the suspect and ensured the law took its course.

In appreciation, Governor Diri on Wednesday, July 23, gifted SP Obi a three-bedroom flat and a brand new car from the state government. The announcement came shortly after the State Executive Council meeting held in Yenagoa.

The Governor described Obi as a shining light and a beacon of hope, especially at a time when the Nigeria Police Force is struggling with credibility issues.

He said of the Police Officer who is from Bayelsa State: “SP Obi did not only make the State proud, he also bolstered the image of the Nigerian Police and I urge other officers to emulate his shining example.”

The Governor also used the opportunity to give an update on the case of kidnapped High Court judge, Justice Ebiyerin Omukoro, who was abducted in front of Kilimanjaro restaurant in Yenagoa on June 21.

He disclosed that all but one of the suspected kidnappers have been apprehended, and efforts are underway to arrest the remaining suspect, who is believed to be the ring leader.

Justice Omukoro was held captive for 12 harrowing days before being released. The Governor assured that the state government is committed to ensuring that such incidents are thoroughly investigated and culprits brought to justice.
