How Wike promised to destabilise PDP for Tinubu in 2027 ― Makinde

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has alleged that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, pledged to undermine the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in favour of President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general election.

Makinde disclosed this while responding to questions from journalists during a media parley in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, on Tuesday, December 23, 2025.

The governor, who is serving his second and final term and a key figure in the opposition PDP, recalled that although he supported Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2023 presidential election, he has no intention of repeating such support in 2027.

Makinde said Wike — his former ally who also backed Tinubu in 2023 — openly made the statement during a meeting attended by the president and other political figures.

Makinde said: “I was in a meeting with President Tinubu and Wike. Wike said to the president, ‘Sir, I will hold the PDP for you in 2027’. I was shocked.

According to Makinde, after the meeting he told Wike that it was not part of what they discussed prior to the meeting.

Makinde said he told Wike he was not part of the plot, and that what he wanted was just a southern president and not to distabilise his party – the PDP

The governor stressed that his immediate focus now is on the survival and rebuilding of the PDP, which he said has been weakened by widespread defections of its members, including governors and lawmakers.
