I told President Tinubu, I would rather quit politics than go back to APC – Kwankwaso

A former governor of Kano State, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has revealed what he discussed with President Ahmed Tinubu when they met in Aso Rock recently.

Speaking at a political gathering in Kano, Kwankwaso declared that he met the president and told him he would rather exit politics entirely than rejoin the APC.

The statement follows speculations by the National Chairman of the APC Abdullahi Ganduje, that Kwankwaso was planning to defect back to the ruling party.

Ganduje, a political rival of Kwankwaso, claimed the NNPP was “practically dead” and suggested the former governor was seeking to revive his political career through the APC.

Kwankwaso, however, dismissed the rumours of his purported return to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He categorically denied these claims, emphasising his commitment to the New Nigerian Peoples Party, NNPP and the Kwankwasiyya movement.

According to him, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had begged him privately to join the APC, but he refused.

Kwankwaso asserted: “Without a doubt, Tinubu pleaded with me to return and even promised that any condition I set would be met for my return to the APC.

“But I refused his offer and made it clear that I would rather quit politics altogether than go back to the APC.”

The former governor further said; “As for the 2027 elections, we will build a strong political movement that will end APC’s rule”.

Kwankwaso’s statement comes amid the ongoing mass exodus from opposition parties in the country to the APC.

Over the past few weeks, high-profile politicians have dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP), and NNPP, among others, for the APC.
