I’ve not resigned, says PDP national chairman, Damagum; attributes rumour to mischief makers

The acting national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Amb. Umar Damagum, said he has not resigned from his position.

He attributed the rumour making the rounds that he has stepped down as national chairman of the PDP to the handiwork of mischief makers.

His purported resignation gained currency over the weekend with the report quoting source of the story from the Arise TV.

It was reported that his resignation comes amid efforts by PDP governors to strengthen their influence over the party’s direction.

“Damagum’s resignation is seen as a strategic move to restore unity and address internal challenges within the party,” the story claimed.

But Damagum, in a statement by his Personal Assistant, Nuru Shehu Jos, said that the law would soon catch up with the sponsors of the fake new.

Damagum noted that the authors attributed their source of information to Arise News, which is equally false.

“We therefore caution mischief makers to desist forthwith from trading fake news to malign a dedicated and hardworking Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Damagun.

“To set the record straight, the Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Damagun has not resigned from his office. The PDP constitution affords the National Chairman a term of 4 years in office, for the first instance.

“We insist that this malicious content against Ambassador Damagun is fake, defamatory, and a height of criminality.

“We therefore call on all members of the Peoples Democratic Party-PDP, elders, stakeholders, all youth and women groups, to disregard the fake news. We assure the sponsors of this evil that soon the law of the land will catch up with them,” the statement said.
