JUST IN: DSS arrests Kano-based activist over suspected Facebook post

The Department of State Services (DSS) has reportedly arrested an activist and organiser of the pro-democracy group “Take-It-Back Movement” (TIB) in Kano State, simply identified as Zubair.

According to TIB, Zubair was taken into custody in the early hours of Thursday, with sources suggesting that his arrest is connected to a Facebook post critical of the government.

The group alleged that Zubair is being transferred to Abuja and has demanded his immediate and unconditional release, citing concerns over freedom of expression.

“TIB organiser in Kano, Zubair, was arrested by the DSS earlier today. The reason for his arrest remains unknown. But sources informed it was connected with a Facebook post critical of the government,” the group stated on its social media platforms.

The Nigerian secret police is yet to issue statement to the effect as of the time of going to press.
