Man convicted for stealing wallet in Kaduna, to sweep court premises for 40 days

A 23-year-old man, Rabiu Gambo, was ordered by a Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court to sweep the court premises for 40 days after pleading guilty to stealing a wallet.

The verdict was delivered on Tuesday by Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel, who stated that the sentence was lenient due to Gambo’s prompt guilty plea, which saved the court’s time.

The magistrate further warned Gambo to refrain from any future criminal activities after completing his sentence. Emmanuel added that the sentence was intended to serve as a deterrent to others.

The case, according to the prosecution led by Inspector Chidi Leo, began on December 27 when Yusuf Mai-shago, a resident of Ungwan Sarki, Kaduna, reported the theft at Malali Police Station.

Mai-shago’s wallet, containing N50,000, two ATM cards, and other identification cards, was stolen by Gambo. The act was found to violate the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.
