Man found with gun, bullets, bullet-proof vest says he was paid N180,000 to fight in Plateau for two months

The Gombe State Police Command has arrested a man with a locally-made gun, live bullets, bullet-proof vest and charms enroute Plateau.

The suspect confessed that he was paid the sum of N180,000 to fight in a community for two months.

The command announced the arrest in a statement by its Public Relations Officer, PRO, Buhari Abdullahi, on Saturday, May 3.

The PRO said the man, Joseph Babari, aged 27 years, was arrested by the patrol team attached to the Pero-Chonge Divisional Headquarters of the command.

According to the statement, the team, while on stop and search duty along the border between Gombe and Taraba states, apprehended the man and he was found with a locally-made rifle, eight live bullets, locally-made bullet-proof vest and some charms.

The command wrote: “During preliminary interrogation, the suspect disclosed that he was travelling from Maikatako, Bokos Local Government Area of Plateau State, with the intention of reaching Karim Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State.

“However, further interrogation of him revealed that the suspect said he was contracted as a fighter at the rate of N180,000 to operate in Bokos Local Government for a duration of two months by one Isah, whose surname remains unknown.”

He was said to have given more useful information to the police operatives in custody while the operatives are trying to unravel the source of the items recovered from him.

He is expected to be charged to court at the conclusion of the investigation.
