Natasha Apoti-Uduaghan plans to resume plenary on Tuesday, no hint of apology

The lawmaker representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has announced her intention to resume her legislative duties on Tuesday, following a Federal High Court ruling that her six-month suspension from the senate was over bearing.

Akpoti-Uduaghan, who chairs the Senate Committee on Diaspora and NGOs, expressed gratitude to her supporters in a viral video shared on social media shortly after the court’s verdict.

“I thank you for your support. I am glad we are victorious today. We shall resume in the senate on Tuesday by the grace of God,” she said, beaming as jubilant supporters surrounded her.

She didn’t hint if she was prepared to tender an apology to the senate or publish any in two national newspapers as directed by the court.

Delivering judgment on Friday, Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja ruled that the suspension imposed on the lawmaker in March was excessive, and a violation of her constituents’ rights to representation.

She was fined N5million for contempt of the court and asked her to apologise to the House and have it published in two national dailies.
