PDP crisis gets messier as Sen. Anyanwu alleges opponent got judgment with forged party’s constitution…police probe allegation

The ongoing crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has escalated with the police launching an investigation into an alleged forgery of the party’s constitution.

This follows claims by Senator Samuel Anyanwu, the party’s embattled National Secretary, who has contested a court ruling that removed him from office.

According to Anyanwu, the judgment was based on a falsified version of the PDP constitution and election guidelines.

The investigation was initiated by a Direct Criminal Complaint filed by Hon. Mike Akwaa-Akwuru Iheanetu, a former Minority Whip of the Imo State House of Assembly, at a Wuse Magistrate Court in Abuja.

The complaint alleged that the PDP’s Election Guidelines were altered by some members of the party, leading to widespread chaos and legal challenges.

As part of the investigation, two officials from the PDP National Secretariat were questioned, and representatives from the printing company involved are also cooperating with the police.

Anyanwu, who is currently appealing the court decision in the Supreme Court, insists that forged documents were presented to prevent his return to the PDP National Secretary position after his bid for Imo State governor.

He pointed out that other high-profile figures, such as Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, had returned to contest elections under the party despite earlier losses.

In a related development, the PDP South-South Zonal Executive Committee (ZEC) suspended its Secretary, Chief Felix Omemu, for issuing an unauthorized statement criticizing a party meeting in Benin, Edo State.

The suspension is the latest move in an ongoing battle over internal party control, which has seen several defections to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

PDP leaders, including former Sokoto Governor Aminu Tambuwal, have criticized the defections, suggesting they were driven by “stomach infrastructure” rather than a commitment to serving the public.

The turmoil within the PDP continues to intensify, as party leaders seek to regain control and focus on rebuilding ahead of the 2027 elections.
