Regina Akume calls on hubby: Return to your Christian roots, after SGF marriage to Ooni’s ex-Queen

In what appears as a surprise public plea, Mrs. Regina Akume, the House of Representatives member for Gboko/Tarka Federal Constituency, has urged her husband, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, to return to Christianity.

She emphasised that his remarkable rise and achievements stem directly from his Christian faith.
Mrs. Akume shared these remarks at the wedding reception of the SGF’s son, held on Sunday, December 28, 2025, in Makurdi, Benue State. A video of her emotional appeal quickly went viral on social media, reposted by Idoma Television on Monday.
The timing coincided with Senator Akume, a former Benue State governor, celebrating his 72nd birthday last weekend, and publicly announcing his marriage to former wife of the Ooni of Ife.
In the video, Mrs Akume prayed for her husband’s long life and good health, while advising him not to abandon Christianity.
She said, “I pray that the Lord will increase his years, good health of mind and body, and give him clarity in thinking and doing things right.
“And he should remember that he is a Christian, and it is Christianity that brought him this far. To drop Christianity now and go for anything else, he will not be successful.
“So my advice to him is to come back to Christianity and follow the line of Christ. We came all the way to the office of SGF, not through enemies but through Jesus Christ. And Jesus Christ is still alive and still working for us. I wish that he would come back to Christianity.”
Her comments come amid widespread discussions following reports that the SGF recently married another wife.
As earlier reported, Senator Akume has reportedly married Zaynab Ngohemba-George, the former wife of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi.
The marriage became public on December 26, 2025, after a Facebook post by Abraham Double-D Dajoh, a member of the Akume Dajoh family from Mbakor, Benue State, welcoming Zaynab into the family.
“We, the entire Dajoh family, happily join our daddy, uncle and brother, His Excellency, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen. George Akume Jugu Dajoh, in welcoming his new and uncommon wife, Queen Zaynab Ngohemba-George Akume Dajoh, into the Dajoh family,” he said.
Photographs shared alongside the post quickly went viral, triggering mixed reactions on social media.
Zaynab was previously married to the Ooni of Ife in a traditional ceremony in March 2016, but the marriage ended in August 2017.
