Sanusi: The IGP has ordered our Investigators to proceed to Kano, case still alive – PPRO
The Nigeria Police Force has directed investigators to travel to Kano to obtain a statement from Emir Sanusi Lamido Sanusi following deadly violence during Sallah celebrations, according to Police Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi.
In an interview with Channels TV, Adejobi stated: “The IGP has just been professional enough that he does not want police actions to be politicized or misinterpreted. The IGP has ordered our investigators to proceed to Kano.”
He also highlighted that the IGP had backtracked from inviting the Emir over following the advisories from critical stakeholders.
”The IGP felt that, okay, since they are dragging the police into social media everywhere, the IGP just said no if that is the case, coupled with a piece of advice from prominent Nigerians and stakeholders in the policing structure in Nigeria,” he stated.
He however indicated that the police are still going to get the statement from the Emir at his palace. ”So, let the investigators proceed to Kano, let them go and obtain a statement. There is nothing wrong, and there is nothing wrong about it. The case still continues, and that does not disturb the process of investigation in any way.”
Adejobi confirmed that authorities have made several arrests following the incident, which resulted in one fatality during a procession led by the Emir.
However, investigators have not yet identified the shooter responsible for the death.
He noted that the Force Intelligence Department (FID) is currently investigating whether the fatal gunshot originated from the immediate vicinity of the Emir’s horseback location.
