Seme Customs arrests two officers for brutalizing civilians, face disciplinary action

The Seme Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Kolade Kayode, said on Tuesday that it has arrested two officers for misconduct and mistreatment of civilians.

He said the officers, identified as Superintendent of Customs T.A Inemugha and Assistant Superintendent of Customs II G.O Aboribo, will be handed over to the Customs Police for further investigation and disciplinary action.

At the press briefing Tuesday, represented by the Deputy Controller of Enforcement at the Seme Border, DC Istifanus Musa, Comptroller Kayode emphasised that the actions of the officers do not align with the professional standards upheld by the Service.

“Preliminary investigations revealed the involvement of the two officers. They have been identified, arrested, and will be transferred to the Customs Police Unit for further investigation,” he stated.

Comptroller Kayode described the incident as regrettable, especially as it occurred during efforts to reinforce the Service’s commitment to integrity and professionalism.

According to him, the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, has strongly condemned the officers’ unethical conduct and has directed that they be taken to the NCS headquarters for a comprehensive investigation and appropriate disciplinary action.

“The complainants are also urged to cooperate with the ongoing investigation by making themselves available,” the Area Controller added.

Kayode reiterated the Service’s dedication to maintaining transparency in its operations and stressed that any form of misconduct would not be tolerated, as the NCS continues to prioritize the interests of the Nigerian public.
