US civil society group commends Trump for establishing work group on Nigerian security, religious freedom

The Save Nigeria Group-USA (SNGUSA), a pressure group, incorporated in the United States of America (USA), has eulogized the US President, Mr. Donald Trump, for his timely response at inaugurating a Work Group, to address the insecurity that has besieged the Africa’s most populous nation, in order to reverse the inhibitions on religious freedom, following the massacre of Christians and other religious adherent, by extreme jihadists and other terrorist groups, about which Nigeria had no solution.

The statement was signed in Washington, D.C. by Stephen Osemwegie, President/Founder of the body, with Victor Ben Onyeka, its Media Director.

The not-for-profit group, which requested President Trump’s urgent intervention in the upsurge of attacks and killings, through a widespread media statement, few days back, extolled Trump for his decisiveness at inaugurating the Work Group in Abuja, the country’s capital, stating inter alia that it marks a “critical moment in bilateral engagement to abate the Nigeria’s security crisis – particularly the targeted persecution of northern Christian communities…”

Messrs Osemwegie and Onyeka stressed that they commend the US Government, under President Trump, for prioritizing the worsening plight of Christian communities and others facing daily attacks from radical Islamist terrorists, Fulani and other militias, whose violence has ravaged Christian populations and others across Nigeria’s Middle Belt states.

“This Working Group must not become another diplomatic exercise. It must deliver results—starting with the immediate rescue of the 177 Christians abducted on January 18 in Kajuru, Kaduna State. Every passing day places their lives at greater risk.” Asserted the statement, which reiterated its urgent call for immediate joint U.S.–Nigeria military intervention to secure the safe release of the abducted worshippers and to dismantle terrorist networks terrorizing vulnerable communities.

The SNGUSA, joined in activity by the Save Nigeria Initiative (SNI), a Nigeria countrywide coalition, that aims to bring lasting peace and national cohesion to the country, with its diverse people and religious bodies, however, advised the Working Group that have the joint leadership of the US Secretary, Allison Hooker and its Nigerian counterpart, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Adviser (NSA), should not be turned into a mere diplomatic group that do not back words with concrete actions.
