Woman gives birth after freedom from bandits in Zamfara

A woman has reportedly given birth shortly after her liberation from bandits in Zamfara state.

The woman was one of many victims rescued by the Nigerian troops in Dan Jibga area of Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

A statement by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division Nigerian Army/Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lt-Col Osoba Olaniyi, said the successful operations were conducted in close collaboration with allied security forces and local vigilantes, demonstrating a unified front against banditry and terrorism.

He said the troops stormed Munhaye Forest, a known hideout of the notorious bandit leader Kachalla Alti following intelligence report that the notorious bandit leader has held some captives hostage.

“The mission led to the successful rescue of 62 kidnap victims who are now in safe custody,” he said

Meanwhile, the rescued persons were in critical condition when they were brought in.

Among them are individuals with various degrees of injury, while others were described as extremely weak and exhausted after spending an extended period in captivity.

Some of the victims were reportedly unable to stand on their feet due to severe fatigue, hunger, and trauma suffered during their ordeal.

A particularly distressing case among the rescued abductees is that of a woman who had just given birth.

According to eyewitnesses familiar with the situation, the woman endured pregnancy under harsh and inhumane conditions while in captivity before eventually delivering her baby shortly after the rescue.

Both the mother and the newborn were rushed to the hospital for urgent medical care.
