Zamfara Gov bans political activities, rallies, gives reason

Zamfara Gov. Dauda Lawal

Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has banned political activities and rallies in the state.

The moved, according to him, is to curb insecurity in the state.

The decision was made following the recent security breach in Maru Local Government Area of the state.

Mustapha Jafaru Kaura, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Broadcast, Media and Public Affairs, who made this disclosure in a statement made available to newsmen, said the ban takes immediate effect.

According to Kaura, security agencies in the state have been directed to take action against any politicians or groups that fail to comply with this directive.

Governor Lawal emphasised that the political season has not commenced anywhere in the country, making this ban a necessary measure to ensure the safety and security of citizens.

The state has witnessed a surge in attacks by gunmen, locally known as bandits, who have been carrying out cattle rustling, mass kidnapping, and killings.

Unfortunately, none of the state’s 14 local government areas is free from insecurity.
