Benue JAMB candidate tells chilling story of how he escaped from bandits’ grip (Video)

One of the students abducted while returning from writing the JAMB-UTME exam in Otukpo, Benue State, has shared a chilling account of how he managed to escape from his captors.

The survivor, who was among the 18 victims reportedly taken during the incident, said they were travelling in a bus when they ran into armed men who blocked the road.

According to him, the attackers, about five in number were carrying guns and long knives. They forced the passengers out of the vehicle and immediately began assaulting them.

“On our way back from writing Post UTME, we saw about five men on the road with guns and long knives. They stopped our vehicle, told us to come down, and started beating us,” he recounted.

Despite the fear and confusion, the survivor said he kept praying quietly, even as many of the others began to lose hope due to exhaustion.

“I kept praying, ‘Jesus save me.’ I thought since I was wearing black, maybe they wouldn’t see me in the dark,” he said.

He revealed that although some of the victims discouraged him from attempting to flee, he felt a strong urge to try.

Gradually, he distanced himself from the group before taking a risky chance and running into the darkness.

At one point, he said he had already accepted the possibility that he might not survive, especially as it seemed no one knew where they had been taken.
Recall, the students were seized while coming from their JAMB centres on Thursday night.
